Description
A distinguished example of mid-century bunka shishu, this hand-worked rooster embroidery comes from a private North Carolina collection dedicated to traditional Japanese bird studies. Bunka-developed in Japan in the 1950s-uses rayon thread and punch-embroidery techniques to create painterly depth and lifelike texture. This piece, completed circa 1960-1970, reflects the classic style: richly layered plumage, soft tonal shading, and a scene inspired by traditional Japanese naturalism. It was later professionally framed in New Bern, North Carolina, preserving the artwork behind a clean paper backing with original framer's label. Sized 30.5x24x1", it presents beautifully as statement wall decor in Asian-inspired, rustic, eclectic, or refined vintage interiors.
