Description
Rare Early 19th century English wall hanging pottery cistern. Of the only comparable found was this one is of a much finer quality in terms of the modeling. It is doubtful that many of these have survived based on the scarcity of auction results available for them. Although, there are no maker's marks to be found, in all likelihood, it may well have been made by Rockingham Pottery Co. As for weight, it is quite heavy. It comes in 2 parts, the base and the top lid.
Condition:
Alterations: Original Condition Unaltered
Imperfections: Some Imperfections
Condition Notes: Overall good condition, and perhaps better than one might imagine for a piece like this given its age and composition. There are multiple minor chips around the front and sides of the lid at the roof edge. All smaller than a dime and barely noticeable. The top is warped, which probably occurred when it was originally fired. Appears to have it's original metal spigot at the base of the front. Nice and rare find.
