Description
This sculptural Murano glass lantern was produced in the workshop of Seguso, Venice, during the mid-20th century (circa 1930s-1950s). The piece features hand-blown clear glass with pronounced intentional surface texturing, most visible on the lower portion when viewed from below, where it catches and scatters light with exceptional depth and sparkle.
What distinguishes this lantern from more common examples is its extensive metal cage, which wraps not only the top and base but continues through the body of the glass with decorative mid-section ironwork. The cage is bronze-toned steel with flowing, ornamental lines that give the piece a strong architectural and sculptural presence, even when unlit.
The lantern retains its original Murano sticker, an increasingly rare and highly desirable detail that strongly supports authenticity. The piece is offered unwired and without canopy or chain, making it ideal for custom electrification, conversion as a pendant shade, or use as a decorative architectural element.
Produced by the Seguso family-one of Murano's most respected glassmaking dynasties-this lantern reflects the artisanal craftsmanship and expressive design that defined Italian decorative lighting of the period.
A striking statement object well suited for an entryway, stairwell, or interior where sculptural lighting is desired.
