Description
This is one of my absolute favorite Wedgwood majolica patterns. The background is a warm yellow, and the grapes and strawberries are rendered in pink. The deep green of the leaves is so richly intense. I photographed this plate outdoors in full sunlight, which accounts for the shiny spots in the thick glaze. The date stamp on the back is 11FY40, which indicates that it was made in November 1940. The manufacturer's mark, Wedgwood, is impressed on the back of the plate, and Wedgwood of Etruria & Barlaston and Made in England are stamped on the back as well.
This plate is in remarkable condition for its age. There is one very small piece missing on the front of the plate (refer to picture 8), and there is light crazing in places. The brown spot on the back of the plate (refer to picture 12) is paint and not dirt. There are no cracks or chips to report. The back of the plate has a light amount of crazing as you can see in the pictures.
The plate measures 9" in diameter and 1" in depth.
