Description
The Sandwiched Glass bottle has a flattened round form. The light gray glass is suffused with striations in alternating swirls of white and tan, weaving patterns that resemble clouds. The base is flat showing the swirls of the glass. The opening is flat and matched with a clear light carnelian cap that is encased in metal. This process of making this bottle is probably very similar to the methods established by the Imperial Glass Works , but this botter is probably a later production during the Republican Period in China during the 1920's and 1930's. This bottle is very elegant in shape and form. The carnelian cap is a good contrast to the grey body with tan and white swirls.
Similar glass snuff bottles are often mistaken for agate bottles.. In truth, it may be just as easy to carve an agate bottle because these bottles were very difficult to make. The glass maker had to first do the striations, lighter colors first and darker colors later while the object was at the molten stage, before blowing to form the bottle.
