Description
I don't know how or exactly when this lovely copper tray was acquired; I just remember that it was always there at home when I was growing up. When I moved into my own place, it moved with me, and has, ever since, in multiple moves. Now I'm downsizing, reluctant to part with it, but there's literally no place for it in my current quarters.
I imagine it originated in a copper workshop adjacent to the big bazaar in either Damascus or Aleppo, to the deafening ringing sounds of hammers on metal. To me, it's a minor work of art with it's lovely incised geometric design and fluted sides. ""Yria" is imprinted on back, the "S" obliterated over time.
It definitely has seen use; the copper has worn away in parts from its base of tin, which to me, with some silver showing through, only adds to its beauty. The tray measures 11 1/4 inches in diameter and is 1 inch deep.
Condition:
Alterations: Unknown
Imperfections: Some Imperfections
Condition Notes: It definitely has seen use; the copper has worn away in parts from its base of tin, which to me, with some silver showing through, only adds to its beauty. The copper too, has acquired some patina on the underside.
