The beautiful rich cobalt blue of this attractive round vase decorated with orchids from the Koransha company cannot be captured by my camera. In fact, the natural light is playing with me, giving me various shades of blue, from dark almost black to navy, but none of the images show the brilliance of the cobalt blue which is a distinctive feature of later porcelains of the Koransha ceramic works.

The Koransha company is a prestigious Japanese porcelain company established in 1875 in Arita, Japan. This piece features delicate hand-painted pink and white orchids with gold accents on a deep cobalt blue background, showcasing the meticulous craftsmanship that Koransha is known for. The shop mark on the base is in underglaze blue - the Koransha or orchid icon with the name of the company written in Kanji This particular style of small decorative case with floral motifs is especially appreciated for its elegant simplicity and technical precision.

In my recent visits to the large cities of Japan, I made it a point to visit the fine porcelain department of prestigious department stores such as Takashimaya. The purpose is to seek out the collection of Fukugawa and Koransha pieces on display. These porcelain works of art are highly regarded with price tags to match.
