Description
Image Dimensions: 7 1/2 x 5 1/4 in (19 x 13.3 cm)
Framed Dimensions: 15 1/2 x 13 3/8 in (39.5 x 34 cm)
Provenance and Authentication:
According to the Letter of Authenticity (LOA) and Certificate of Authenticity (COA) provided by the consignor, this collectible was subjected to a forensic examination. The accompanying documentation states that the signatures were evaluated with reference to multiple characteristics, including ink deposition, material and aging characteristics, stylistic consistency, and historical context. Based on the examination described in these documents, the authentication provider concluded that the findings were consistent with the attributed signatures. The LOA and COA provided by the consignor accompany the lot.
A signed abstract drawing associated with German modernist artist Kurt Schwitters, executed in black medium on paper and presented within a dark wood frame.
The composition is constructed from intersecting diagonals, fragmented geometric planes, curved forms, and areas of vigorous parallel shading. Rather than establishing a conventional pictorial space, the drawing organizes the sheet through contrasts of line, direction, density, and negative space. Angular passages cut dynamically across softer rounded forms, creating a strong sense of movement and structural tension.
Particularly effective is the alternation between heavily worked dark passages and comparatively open areas of paper. The repeated directional strokes lend the composition an architectural rhythm while retaining the immediacy and spontaneity of a drawing. Its fragmented visual language relates naturally to the broader experimental vocabulary of early twentieth-century European modernism.
The work bears the initials "KS" at the lower left. Presented beneath a wide light-colored mat in a dark wood frame, giving the compact composition a clean and balanced presentation.
