the circular silvered dial signed J Assman Glasshutte I/Sachsen. with Arabic indices and outer minute track, sub-seconds dial at the 6 o'clock position, blued steel hands, plain case with hinged lugs and crown at the 12 o'clock position with handset pusher adjacent, exhibition case back revealing a three quarter plate pocket watch movement signed J Assman Glasshutte No. 8434, circa 1880, fitted with a brown leather strap with a steel pin buckle. Case diameter 49mm

Julius Assman is considered as a founder of the Glashutte watch industry alongside Adolph Lange, Moritz Grossman and Adolf Schneider. He trained under F.A. Lange in 1850 and opened his own Atelier in 1852. He developed a world-class reputation and his factory specialised in high-end precision marine chronometers and pocket watches.

Watch is currently functioning but timekeeping not tested.
