Description
This marvelous hand chased pitcher or carafe lid or cover is created in gorgeous sterling silver and was made by John James Keith of London in 1835. This beautiful lid cover is topped with a running fox in a great deal of detail, even showing a very fluffy tail. He/she is sitting on a crown with acanthus leaf design with a lower rim with a notched band, a wider band with geometric shapes and a lower band with leaf adornment. The original screw with nut are intact and can be used to reattach this exquisite lid to a glass or pottery pitcher. Hallmarks are [photo 5]: IJK in a rectangle=John James Keith, Rappent Lion=British sterling, Leopard head=London, Export Regent's profile [King William IV] to the right=assay mark for export, u=date of 1835. Measurements for this fabulous creation are: Height from top to bottom including screw=2-1/2 inches, Diameter=2 inches, Weight=2.35 Troy ounces. This marvelous sterling silver pitcher top has been well cared for, gently used and is in excellent antique condition, free from chips, cracks or other imperfections. The under bottom shows hand chased marks with very light surface scratching, but it does not diminish the beauty or usability of this lovely piece. It is the perfect addition to your dining service, particularly if you like the very ancient fox hunt theme.
