A striking one-of-a-kind sculptural chair carved from an exceptionally large section of solid tree trunk. The chair retains the dramatic natural character of the timber, including prominent growth rings, knots, grain variations and age-related checking.
Rather than being assembled from individual pieces of lumber, the chair has been sculpted directly from the massive timber, creating an imposing high back, substantial seat and organically shaped integrated arms. The warm hand-finished surface beautifully emphasizes the grain and natural coloration of the wood. The monumental proportions and primitive hand-carved construction give the piece a strong Organic Modern, Brutalist and American Studio Craft presence. Equally successful as functional seating or as a statement piece of functional sculpture.
