Iron and Tole Painted Coal Bucket. Used by the fireplace to carry coal in and out of the home. Now painted scarlet red with gilt laurels around a winter road scene. Mid-1th century. American iron body. Lovely red body and is handpainted with gold laurels and a winter road scene. The lid pulls up and off the body. The body surface inside and out is rough weathered iron. Originally a coal bucket to supply the fireplace or stove. Folding carrying handle and brass finial.
The size is 13" in diameter at the foot and 17" tall. Very strong and in good condition.
