Pair of French Neoclassical Patinated Bronze and Marble Urn Vases in the Greco-Roman tradition. Each urn displays a tall, ovoid classical vessel with a narrow, elongated neck, broad shoulder, and tapering lower body. The deeply aged dark brown bronze patina provides a dramatic ground for the extensive relief decoration and warm gilt accents; these characteristics are evocative of the Grand Tour tradition where European and American travelers sought objects inspired by ancient Greece and Rome. The urns have elaborately cast twin handles, incorporating scrolling foliage, classical ornament, and figural mask-like details where the handles join the vase.
