Description
Willard MacGregor (American 1901 - 1993) Abstract with Two Hands, crayon on paper, signed in pencil lower right, float mounted in frame. Willard MacGregor was a talented individual with a dual career as a classical pianist and an artist. In the 1920’s he studied piano and painted in Berlin, Paris, London and Rome. He was a close friend of Milton Avery and spent considerable time with the Avery family in Maine, and also in New York, where he produced art in the abstract expressionist style. In New York he was very close with a group of artists including the Avery's, Grace Hartigan, and Isaac Lane Muse (see lot #86). Provenance: The Estate of Willard MacGregor.
