Lanier Meaders (1917-1998) Georgia folk pottery face jug with dark olive alkaline glaze, large applied ears, heavy brows, modeled nose and mouth, inset eyes and small contrasting teeth. A fourth-generation potter from the Mossy Creek district of White County, Georgia, Meaders worked with a foot-powered treadle wheel and wood-fired kiln and became particularly celebrated for reviving the Southern face-jug tradition.
