Louis XVI Upholstered Carved Gilt Bergere Chair

Description

This exquisite Bergere chair is likely from the early 1900s. The Bergere style chair originated in the 1700s in France and typically featured upholstered backs, arms and cushions. They typically featured wood frames that were either gilded or painted. This excellent giltwood piece has an excellent patina with gilded features. Bergere chairs, or "shepherdess chairs," further developed into various styles, such as Directoire, Louis XVI, rococo, among other styles. We are pleased to present this excellent example of the Louis XVI style.
