This is an antique prie dieu slipper chair, later 19th century, in hand carved walnut and a light coral colored upholstery. The highly detailed carved shell on the crest makes a beautiful presentation. - Seashells are an ancient Christian
symbol referring to religious pilgrimages and spiritual protection. Seashells were also used as the symbol of rebirth. Scallop shell symbolism is associated with the apostle, James.
