A charming antique Spanish Baroque low table / stool / bench with beautifully aged dark rich patina. circa 1880

Born in Spain during the late 19th century, hand-crafted of walnut, high quality rustic craftsmanship and pegged solid wood construction, having a single slab plank top with attractive natural live edge and old, age related wood split that adds to the antique character and authenticity, mounted over a center frieze drawer with dovetail joinery and the original turned wooden knob.

In typical Spanish Baroque and Colonial era taste, it features nicely detailed decorative geometric carvings. The carved and incised ornamentation begins on the drawer front, continuing around the apron, finished on all sides so it can be placed anywhere in the room. Similar to a box-stretcher joint stool, the H-form stretcher-joined base rises on four turned legs, joined by a hand hewn cross-stretcher that adds to the relaxed rustic warmth and elegant European old world charm.

Very strong and sturdy, with the ideal size and proportions for a variety of different uses, including as an end table, chair side table, bedside nightstand, to provide additional seating as a stool, small entry bench, or placed in the hall as a diminutive console.
