Description
Mamiwata, or Mammy Waters, is a shared deity across Africa and its diasporic cultures. A goddess of water, healing and fertility, she is a popular sculptural form. She is depicted here with a benevolent expression as she comes to the aid of the figure at the fore. Green, leaf-shaped wings flourish from her arms, adding a deific sense to the diminutive sculpture. Traditional reds and browns highlight the carved textures of this spiritual sculpture.
