A framed color sporting print by the celebrated French-Russian artist Boris Riab (Boris Riabouchinsky, 1898-1975), depicting an English Pointer retrieving a partridge. The dog's glossy black head and finely stippled coat are rendered with the detail that made Riab one of the most collected names in 20th-century sporting art.

Pencil-signed "B. Riab" in the lower right. Printed by his longtime Paris publisher with the copyright inscription along the upper margin: "Copyright by Ch. Ducher et Cie, 35, Av. de l'Opera, Paris, ndeg 796." Presented under glass in a warm burl-wood frame with a soft gray-blue double mat and hand-drawn French mat lines.

The print likely dates to the 1940s, but I am not certain of the exact date.

Riab fled Russia in 1917 and settled in France in 1927, building his reputation on watercolors and limited-edition engravings of gundogs and game birds. His work remains a favorite among sporting-art collectors, hunters, and admirers of English country and lodge decor.

The frame measures 20" H x 25" W x 0.75" D and the print measures 12" H x 16" W.
