In Tribute, J. Kent Martin builds a rhythmic field of intersecting black forms layered over a neutral ground of taupe, gray, and muted blue. Repeated cross-like marks create a sense of reverence and accumulation, as if honoring memory or legacy. The surface is richly worked, with layered textures and subtle tonal shifts adding depth.
