An exceptional monumental Italian hand-crafted terracotta sculpture depicting a reclining mother cat protectively embracing her sleeping kitten atop a vividly striped cushion. Executed in richly crackled white majolica glaze with expressive hand-painted yellow eyes, black facial detailing, turquoise shell-form feet, and warm ochre accents.

Hand-built in Italy during the mid- to late-20th century, the sculpture displays the warmth and character of traditional Italian majolica, with an unglazed terracotta underside confirming its artisan construction. The generous 22-inch width and whimsical modeling make this an impressive decorative statement for a console, library, sunroom, or collector's display.
