Incredible large diamond-shaped postmodern abstract painting from Mercedes Monez Smith. This striking piece of modern art depicts clusters of bright colorful pixel blocks floating on a brown background. Frameis made of metal and wood. Signed on the backside with additional handwritten info including the title of the painting "Break in Arc." This painting was probably completed some time in the 1970s.

Monez Smith's art has been exhibited in the San Francisco Museum of Art, Solo exhibition, 1970! Born in Sacramento, CA on Feb. 15, 1917. Monez Smith settled in Oakland, CA with her family in 1926. By nine she was winning awards for her artwork and at 13 began studying at the CCAC. In 1942 she wed Douglas Smith. In 1955 she began a 23-year stint teaching painting and drawing at the San Leandro School District. She died in Emeryville, CA on March 18, 1998. Monez Smith's work includes landscapes, still life, portraits, and abstracts. Member: Oakland AA; SF Women Artists; Marin Society of Artists. Exhibited: Alameda Co. Fair, 1964 (1st prize); Labaudt Gallery, 1968 (solo); SF Women Artists, 1968 (2nd prize); SFMA, 1970 (solo).
