This Chinese red lacquered trunk was made during the, late 19th century, and is raised on a custom-made modern stand. The original warm red lacquer is adorned with a sophisticated vegetable wheel cross of Persian inspiration. The traditional Chinese brass lock, also original to the piece, is of butterfly form. Each side features a handle with wheel cross back plate. The stand is also carved in a manner that compliments the trunk. This ancient Chinese trunk from the, late 19th century would be a splendid and uncommon storage unit, perhaps in a bedroom or in a den where it might be used as a petite side table as well. The measurements mentioned below include the stand.
