A 19th century Chinese grain barrel / basket with calligraphy on the sides. This round barrel is made with black lacquered wood planks and features two round knobs on the sides for lifting. The basket is adorned with two calligraphy columns, enhanced by gilt painting, echoing that found on lower band securing the staves. This 19th century Chinese grain barrel basket with calligraphy would be an unusual decorative item in most homes, perhaps in a living room where it would no doubt be a tremendous conversation starter.
