Description
A richly detailed American silverplate serving tray by Sheffield Silver Company, its surface almost entirely given over to an exuberant composition of scrolling foliage, flowers and shell motifs.
The rectangular tray is framed by a substantial twisted-rope border and finished with a pair of ribbed handles emerging from sculptural foliate mounts. At center, the dense ornamentation gives way to a smooth cartouche, creating a quiet counterpoint to the surrounding pattern.
The reverse bears Sheffield Silver Company's distinctive pictorial trademarks together with boxed E P C, denoting electroplated copper, and the pattern/design number 5/256.
Made in the early-to-mid 20th century, the tray has all the formality of traditional silver service without feeling overly precious. Particularly good layered into a home bar, set on a coffee table, used for entertaining or styled with decanters and glassware.
Early-to-mid 20th century, circa 1910s-1940s. Measures approximately 0.5" tall, 16" wide and 9.75" deep.
In good vintage condition with surface scratches, scattered tarnish and darkened areas, and wear consistent with age and use. The underside shows additional scratching. Please refer to photographs for details.
