Charming and atmospheric antique Florida landscape painting dating to 1929, depicting a tranquil palm-lined shoreline along the water near Daytona, Florida.
Painted on board with soft, impressionistic brushwork, the composition captures the character of Old Florida before the extensive development of the mid-20th century. Tall palms line the sandy shoreline while their reflections extend into the quiet blue-gray water. A hazy pastel sky in muted rose, lavender and blue gives the scene a wonderful sense of depth and early-morning Florida light.
Most importantly, the reverse retains a wonderful period handwritten inscription reading "Near Daytona Florida 1-9-29," documenting both the location and the date of the work. This makes the painting considerably more interesting than an unidentified vintage Florida landscape.
Presented in its handsome period-style molded giltwood frame, which displays attractive age-related patina and wear.
The artist is presently unidentified; no visible signature has been located.
A beautiful piece of Florida regional art and Old Florida history, particularly well suited for a coastal, Palm Beach, traditional, collected or gallery-wall interior.

Condition:
Alterations: Original Condition Unaltered
Imperfections: Some Imperfections
Condition Notes: Good antique condition consistent with its approximately 97 years of age. The painting shows scattered surface marks, abrasions, spotting and areas of paint/surface wear visible in the photographs. The gilt frame has expected age-related rubbing, scratches and finish loss. The reverse retains considerable age-related toning and staining as expected. I would not clean or restore it aggressively; the untouched appearance contributes to its Old Florida character.
