Height:8.1cm(3.19in)Width:3.6cm(1.42in)Weight:40g(0.088lb)This snuff bottle is crafted of porcelain with painted enamel. It adopts an ingenious bucket-shaped form with an arched gilt handle. The body is olive-shaped with a flared rim and small foot. The exterior is painted with a Western mother-and-child scene set among trees and foliage on pale blue ground, with vivid facial expressions and brightly coloured costumes, representing the Sino-Western artistic style popular in the Qing court. A wide flat plate sits atop the mouth, supporting an arched gilt handle with a gilt ingot-shaped stopper at its centre. The plate is decorated with blue heart motifs on yellow ground, the rim has green scrollwork, and the foot is adorned with blue ruyi cloud patterns. A red enamel seal mark is on the base. Finely painted with rich colours and well-preserved gilding, it combines imitative vessel form, painted enamel western figure painting and gilding. It is a rare fine example of bucket-style snuff bottle, embodying the artistic fusion of Chinese and Western culture.
