Height:13cm(5.12in) Width:12.5cm(4.92in)This bronze cane head of the Han Dynasty is modelled as a phoenix with raised head, elegant long neck and graceful outstretched wings. The feather scales of the bird are fully inlaid with natural turquoise outlined by gold wire. Fine patterns are carved with gold inlay on the wings. The cylindrical socket below is designed to receive the wooden cane shaft, with ancient characters inscribed in gold inlay on the body. Dragonfly-eye glass beads adorn the socket, creating multi-layered ornamentation. The surface is covered with solid red and green patina deeply penetrating the bronze, with thick aged patina. The phoenix was an auspicious divine bird in Han culture. Cane heads were ritual implements for high-ranking nobles. Integrating gold inlay, turquoise inlay, glass inlay and inscribed casting, it features extremely intricate craftsmanship. Surviving examples are rare, representing the pinnacle of Han bronze artistry.
