Height:12cm(4.72in) Width:8cm(3.15in) Weight:670g(1.477lb)This pair of horn-shaped jade gongs is modelled after animal horns, serving as important wine ritual vessels of Han Dynasty. The jade is bluish-green and moist, with large areas of aged reddish-brown patina penetrating deep into the jade matrix, coated with thick ancient patina. The cup body is decorated with relief beast masks and cloud patterns. A curved dragon-phoenix handle is carved on one side with flexible shape and powerful smooth lines. The vessel features a wide opening tapering downwards, ending in a curled tail, combining wine vessel and auspicious beast form. Horn cups symbolize good fortune since antiquity, and surviving pairs are extremely rare. Adopting round carving, high relief and line engraving, they are major ritual jades from Han royal court.
