Description
Height:6cm(2.36in) Width:9.5cm(3.74in) Weight:260g(0.573lb)This Han Dynasty Hetian jade auspicious beast is fully carved in round sculpture. The beast is recumbent, raising its head with open mouth, powerful and vivid expression, robust body and curled tail. Gold inlay decorates the body, with turquoise and red gemstones inlaid on horns and eyes, and gold foil attached to chest. The jade is mild, with natural reddish-brown patina penetrating into the texture and thick antique patina. Two characters ??Xiang Rui?? (Auspicious Omen) are incised and gold-inlaid on the belly. Jade auspicious beasts of Han Dynasty were important imperial furnishings. Combining round carving, gold inlay and gem embedding techniques, surviving examples are extremely rare, representing a top-tier masterpiece of Han jade.
