Height:5.7cm(2.24in)Width:3.7cm(1.46in)Weight:100g(0.220lb)Jade Human Figure Pendant, Hongshan Culture. Carved from yellow jade with striking widespread red patina, the contrast between yellow base and red infiltration is vivid, covered with thick ancient patina. The deity is depicted in squatting posture, wearing a wide-brimmed crown with a hole on top for threading. The facial features including crescent eyes, short nose and closed mouth are carved by fine incised lines, with several horizontal lines on forehead. Large ears are pierced with circular holes. Arms bend in front of chest with hands folded. Openwork hollowing on torso and bent legs. Made with openwork and ground polishing techniques, the form is primitive and mysterious. Hongshan jade human figures were prehistoric ritual objects for worship, representing the deity revered by ancient people. With concise and vivid carving, it is a masterpiece of Hongshan jade, bearing extraordinary historical, religious and artistic value.
