Height:25cm(9.84in), Diameter:20cm(7.87in)Classic imperial ritual vessel of octagonal form, composed of candle holder, slender neck, drip?pan and octagonal base. The upper flared octagonal socket holds candle, decorated with scrolling foliage and ruyi?cloud motifs. The drip?pan is encircled by scrolling floral patterns. The octagonal base features eight panels painted with underglaze?red seasonal flower sprays including peony, chrysanthemum and lotus. Horizontal inscription ??Da?Ming Xuan?De Nian?Zhi?? is painted along the upper rim of base. Rendered in underglaze?red on lustrous white glaze, the red pigment presents rich deep tone with forceful flowing lines. The unglazed sandy base bears an old collection label. As an imperial sacrificial?display object, underglaze?red wares were extremely difficult to fire, with very few survivals, representing masterworks of Ming?dynasty underglaze?red porcelain.
