A hidden drainage hole at cup bottom works by siphon principle: excess water will flow out automatically, conveying the moral warning against over?indulgence. Matching saucer and stand share identical coral?red ground and gilt ball?flower ornamentation. Fine glaze and splendid gilding reflect sophisticated craftsmanship, combining practical function, ingenious mechanism and auspicious moral as a fine Qing court decorative object.
