Rare stag weathervane. Attributed to J. W. Fiske. Full body molded copper. New York, early 20th century. Stand included as shown.

H 28 in. W 20-3/4 in.

A stag of similar form is illustrated in the J. W. Fiske catalogue. A second example is illustrated in Steve Miller's 'The Art of the Weathervane', page 147.

Areas of surface restoration. Opinion: Appears to have been painted yellow. Yellow was cleaned off ( vestiges of yellow paint remain). In addition, likely done some removal revealing loss to verdigris in areas. These areas are where there is restoration to verdigris using the appropriate acid based compound as an agent. The work quality done was exceptional.
