the carved slender case enclosing a hook-and-spike escapement, with a brass Roman dial set with foliate fretwork spandrels
40cm wide, 22.5cm deep, 207cm high
Provenance:
The contents of Thornton House, Clare, Suffolk.
Condition Report:
Structurally unstable: the clock is not freestanding and is only upright when supported against a wall or similar backing. Cosmetically the case is in mostly good order, albeit with some small abrasions, scuffs and relatively large cracks to sides, etc. Parts of the plinth base sit slightly proud/loose. Dial in good order overall although with some wear to include scuffs and tarnishing, etc. Dial securely affixed to case. Pendulum included. Some evidence of worm to rear. Whilst the hood slides into place properly, the dial sits slightly proud and there is a visible gap present. Dial door appears to be pinned shut and cannot open. Some evidence of worm. Movement produces some audible noise when weight applied, however, movement is untested and professional evaluation is advised.
