This exquisite Belgian oil painting from 1920 depicts a vibrant still life of mixed flowers arranged in a cream-colored ceramic vase, showcasing the rich artistic tradition of Flemish floral painting. The composition features deep burgundy, pink, and yellow blooms with lush green foliage against a moody, dark background, executed with the characteristic thick impasto technique that gives the work remarkable texture and depth. Set within an ornate period frame with elaborate carved and gilded detailing, this piece demonstrates the enduring influence of the Dutch and Flemish masters while capturing the early 20th century's continued appreciation for classical still life subjects. The warm, earthy palette and masterful use of light and shadow create an intimate, contemplative mood typical of Belgian art from this period, making it a fine example of post-impressionist floral painting that would enhance any collection of European art.
