"Vanquish sits proudly at the top of the Aston Martin model range. As our flagship Grand Tourer it represents the height of our design, engineering, technology and craftsmanship. ...it is a car of unprecedented ability, it is the very essence of Aston Martin." – Aston Martin.
Introduced for the 2015 model year, the Vanquish benefited from Aston Martin's significant mid-cycle update, most notably the adoption of the acclaimed eight-speed ZF Touchtronic III transmission. Faster, lighter and markedly more responsive than the earlier six-speed unit, it transformed the driving experience, reducing the 0-62mph sprint to just 3.8 seconds whilst enhancing refinement and touring capability. Power was provided by Aston Martin's naturally aspirated 5,935cc V12, producing 568bhp and delivering the effortless performance and evocative soundtrack that have become hallmarks of the marque's flagship grand tourers.
Constructed around Aston Martin's bonded aluminium VH architecture and clothed in lightweight carbon fibre bodywork, the Vanquish represented the ultimate evolution of the Gaydon-era platform. Standard carbon ceramic brakes provided exceptional stopping power whilst reducing unsprung weight, perfectly complementing the car's grand touring credentials and near-200mph performance.
What truly sets this example apart, however, is its status as one of just six Aston Martin Works-built 60th Anniversary cars commissioned through the marque's bespoke Q Division. Created to celebrate Aston Martin's most significant decades, each of the six cars represented a different era in the company's history, with this example paying tribute to the 1950s. Furthermore, it is the first coupe completed from a production run of only three coupes, making it one of the rarest modern Aston Martins produced.
The level of craftsmanship is exceptional throughout. Drawing inspiration from some of Aston Martin's most celebrated models, numerous interior components were specially manufactured for the programme, including aluminium switchgear crafted from melted pistons sourced from a DB2/4. Accompanying the car is its original leather-bound Aston Martin Q commissioning portfolio, documenting the creation of this very example from concept to completion through an extensive photographic record. Combined with its lightweight forged alloy wheels, as fitted to the later Ultimate Edition-inspired cars, this highly exclusive Vanquish represents not only one of the finest expressions of the model, but also a unique celebration of Aston Martin's heritage and bespoke craftsmanship.
In addition the car will be sold with the private registration LE55AMV or "Limited Edition 55 Aston Martin Vanquish" as previosuly assigned to the car and now on retention.
Provenance:
An entirely new Aston Martin for the 21st Century, the original Vanquish debuted at the Geneva Auto Show in March 2001. Styled by Ian Callum, the man responsible for the DB7, the V12-engined Vanquish took over from the Vantage V8, the Newport Pagnell factory undergoing an extensive multi-million pound refurbishment to accommodate it. For the successor, '2nd Generation' Vanquish, production shifted to Aston Martin's new factory at Gaydon, from whence deliveries commenced in 2012.
Seeking to end Aston Martin's reliance on outside coachbuilders, then company boss David Brown had purchased Newport Pagnell-based Tickford Ltd in 1955. Within ten years, the Newport Pagnell site had become Aston Martin's home. At its height, the factory built more of its cars 'in-house' than almost any other manufacturer, including chassis, engine, bodywork, and trim. Even after production moved to Gaydon in 2007, part of the Newport Pagnell site was retained by Aston Martin Works, and the association between the town and the marque continues to this day.
To commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the association, Aston Martin Works commissioned six special cars (three Vanquish coupés and three Vanquish Volante convertibles), each representing a particular decade. Each limited edition Vanquish was styled by the design team at Aston Martin Lagonda working with the company's bespoke personalisation service: 'Q by Aston Martin'. Uniquely, these cars use authentic materials carefully selected from each era of the last 60 years to create a celebration of the past, present, and future of Aston Martin Works at Newport Pagnell.
The first car, a white Volante, was unveiled just before Christmas 2014 to specially invited customers at the annual party; the remaining cars were built during the first few months of 2015. Five of the six cars were, for the first time, brought together in May 2015 for the AM Works/Bonhams auction, and the following day in a special class at the AMOC Spring Concours.
This this highly collectible limited edition Aston Martin is offered with all books, USB stick and commemerartive carbon fibre pen, cufflinks and tools as new.
