Description
Large French Post Impressionist oil painting on panel by listed Italian artist, Albert F Duprat 1882-1974. It is a very beautiful depiction of a view of gondoliers on a canal in Venice. The work is superbly painted with lovely light reflecting on the water and buildings. Title: 'Gondoliers on a Canal in Venice', signed lower left. Displayed in the original French Montparnasse gilt frame. Provenance: private French collection. Sight: 18" W x 24" H.
Duprat trained in Venice at the Venice Beaux Arts School and painted in the manner of his contemporaries Felix Ziem and Adolphe Bachmann. His work is also closely comparable to Antoine Bouvard. He also worked in Paris, painting bridges and the banks of the Seine River as well as Martigues, called the Provencal Venice of France because of its many canals.
Art has long been regarded as a strong and safe investment. Ellen Kelleher, a personal finance reporter for The Financial Times wrote an article recommending art particularly in the $500 - $50,000 range as a sound long term investment with an impressive current average annual yield of 9.7%.
