Description
Brilliantly painted in tones of blue, green and warm brown, this fractured view of a church and palm trees along the Mediterranean, the building's tower and apse depicted in a golden glow, was painted by Marthe Bohm in 1952, after she started to embrace Cubism in the 1940s. Bohm grew up in Bohemia and was trained in Dresden, but after meeting Gosta Bohm, a Swedish artist, she settled in Sweden for the rest of her life. She and her husband traveled widely around the Mediterranean, so this view of a Saint Peter's Church could come from either Spain or Italy. Signed lower left "M Bohm 52".
