This striking framed botanical wall art features a plant from the nightshade family with a rich history of medicinal and ritualistic use. The plate is inscribed as follows:

Pl. 57
Hocquart del et sculp
Jusquiame Noire

This engraving is Plate 57 from Phytographie Medicale by French botanist and physician Joseph Roques (1772-1850). First published between 1821 and 1825, it described medicinal, poisonous, and narcotic plants including mushrooms, poppies, and cannabis, as well as their remedies.
