Description
This set of nine (9) serigraphs (screenprints) by George Catlin faithfully reproduce images of American Plains Indians in the mid 19th century. The originals are stone lithographs from George Catlin's famous and incredibly rare "North American Indian Portfolio" which was first published in 1844. The original stone lithographs (if you can locate one for sale) are priced at thousands of dollars each. Catlin spent eight years among 48 Indian tribes in preparation. This print is from the 1970 limited edition portfolio. Lower quality reproductions are available but do not compare to the limited edition portfolio published by The Swallow Press/Sage Books in 1970 in an edition limited to 1000 copies. This set is from # 130. Even under magnification the prints from the 1970 portfolio compare most favorably to the originals. Outstanding detail and all are in excellent condition. Help yourself to this iconic 'Americana' images. Only the 9 images are for sale. The other info may be printed out if so desired. We will ship these fine vintage prints flat. Dimensions: 22.5" x 17". Great for a HUGE wall treatment or several smaller groupings.
