Original signed ink drawing titled "Queen & Her Parrot" by Los Angeles artist Joan Carl (1926-2021), dated 1986. Executed in crisp black ink on paper, the composition features a stylized queen figure accompanied by a parrot rendered in precise linework, intricate patterning, and delicate stippling.

The drawing balances figurative illustration with decorative abstraction. Flowing contours, geometric costume elements, and rhythmic line work give the piece a graphic presence reminiscent of Art Deco revival and late-20th-century illustrative drawing traditions. The highly controlled ink technique and ornamental detailing create both visual texture and narrative character within the composition.

Joan Carl was a California artist, sculptor, and educator who served as President of the Los Angeles Art Association. Her work spans sculpture, painting, and drawing, and has been exhibited in galleries and collected throughout California.

The artwork is signed and dated by the artist and titled on the reverse. It is presented in a minimalist acrylic gallery frame with a generous white mat that highlights the crisp ink lines and elevates the presentation.

Provenance: Acquired from the estate of a Pasadena art curator.

A distinctive late-20th-century figurative drawing that works beautifully in mid-century modern, Art Deco revival, contemporary, and eclectic interiors, and pairs well with other graphic ink drawings, figurative illustration, or vintage modern works on paper.
