Decorate a study, library, dining room, or country house interior with this charming pair of antique French pastoral paintings. Crafted in France circa 1870, each oil on canvas is set in its original blackened wooden frame with warm gilt accents and molded inner trim. The companion scenes depict quiet rural life, with farmhouses, distant landscape views, resting sheep, goats, cows, and figures tending their animals.
One painting features a shepherd seated beside his flock near a stream, with sheep gathered at a water bowl and cattle resting by a farmhouse. The second composition shows a milkmaid seated beside cows and goats in a sunlit farmyard, creating a pleasing narrative pair with wonderful countryside character. Both works are signed, though the signatures are difficult to read. The paintings retain rich, time-softened color, visible craquelure, and an appealing aged surface. In excellent condition commensurate with age and use, this antique pair brings warmth, charm, and a collected French country atmosphere to any interior.
