An antique Indonesian floral carved wooden blanket chest from the 19th century, with red, brown and gilt accents. Born on the island of Madura off of the northeastern coast of Java, this exquisite blanket chest attracts our attention with its contrasting colors and skillfully executed decor. Featuring a rectangular lid with large nailheads, opening thanks to a metal latch to reveal a convenient storage space, the chest is adorned with a striking gilt floral hand carved decor, standing out beautifully on its red and brown ground. Presenting lateral C-scroll handles, the chest is raised on four exquisite scrolling feet, connected to one another through a carved apron in the front. With its refined floral motifs and contrasting colors, this 19th century Javanese blanket chest will be an undeniable focal point in any home, particularly in a bedroom or living room.
