Charming signed original oil on canvas depicting a working coastal harbor scene, dated 1993. The composition centers on a weathered red waterfront barn surrounded by stacked wooden lobster traps, docks and pilings overlooking calm blue water.
Across the harbor, a small coastal village of traditional houses sits against a tree-lined landscape, while a red truck along the waterfront adds another wonderful period detail. The artist used a richly textured, naive/folk-art approach, with particular attention given to the weathered wood, lobster crates, stone seawall and architecture.
Signed and dated 1993 in red at the lower right. The signature appears to read "Serb..." or similar, but I would list the artist as unidentified unless we can positively decipher it.
The imagery strongly evokes a New England or northeastern U.S. fishing village, making it especially attractive for coastal, nautical, cottage, Americana and traditional interiors.
