This fabulous antique pair of 2 Japanese tea cups and saucers are created in gorgeous hand wrought 950 sterling silver with designs of the Japanese maple leaf and rising sun. Japanese red maple leaves [momiji] represent abundant blessings, peace, beauty, patience, survival and arrival of autumn [Koyo]. The rising sun refers to Japan's geographic location relative to China's and the fact that the sun never sets in the East [Asahi]. The symbol of the rising sun has been used since Imperial times. There is also a repousse floral design surrounding the maple leaves and rising sun, as well as a "D shaped handle. These beautiful cups and saucers are hand wrought. There are no hallmarks. Measurements for this fabulous creation are: Cups: Diameter=2-5/8 inches, Height from top to bottom=1-1/2 inches. Saucers diameter=4-1/2 inches, Depth=3/4 inches. This beautiful pair of tea cups and saucers have been well cared for, gently used and are in excellent condition, free from dents or repairs.
