HENRY O. DORMANN (1932-2018). A single-page typed letter signed by Dormann, the founder and first Executive Director of The Library of the Presidential Papers, on the library's letterhead, dated December 2, 1968. Addressed to Walter Winchell; with Winchell pencil notations. 10 1/2" x 7 1/4." Good condition, but for the mark from still present paperclip. Dormann references and attaches a page of the Sydney Morning Herald, with article, "Oh For Walter Winchell!," by Lilian Roxon from New York. The article concerns the marriage of Jacqueline Kennedy to Aristotle Onassis, and the resulting speculation of a pregnancy, and that it would be known for sure if it were a time when Louella Parsons was "still alive" and Walter Winchill was still appearing daily, unleashing their "blind items." In response Winchell has noted in pencil on the letter: "dear Henry" and "Louella isn't dead." TOGETHER WITH: An Independence Hall "Wood Relic" souvenir plaque sponsored by the Disabled American Veterans Service Foundation, 16" x 10 1/2"; a pamphlet titled "A Tribute to America," by Walter Winchell, US Government Printing Office, 1939 (one folded sheet); a print of poem "Americanism" by Sarah Berman, May 30, 1945 (framed 11 1/4" x 7 1/4"); and a vintage framed hand-colored print of the Washington Monument and the cherry blossom trees (frame 9" x 11"); PROVENANCE: THE HAROLD A. LAYER COLLECTION. From The Walter Winchell Files, Butterfield & Butterfield, 1990/91.
