Artist: Eddie F. Stewart (20th Century). Three circa 1940s original illustrations/comic panels, ink and color pencils on board: 1.) "G"osh. No Ships Again, This Week Mr. Evans!"; signed Eddie Stewart lower left; 15" x 11." 2.) "Millie"; unsigned; 9 1/2" x 16." 3.) "Good Heavens, Woman, How Many Jobs Do You Want a Man to Have?"; unsigned; dated 1959 in picture; 11" x 14." Eddie F. Stewart was possibly a freelance, uncredited comic/pulp illustrator, or produced these pieces as a sideline. He appears to have been a friend of Walter Winchell's, as Winchell had multiple of the illustrated boards with his papers. Among them were menu/city guide designs, that suggest Stewart circulated in the mid-20th century New York Stork Club/nightclub scene. PROVENANCE: THE HAROLD A. LAYER COLLECTION. From The Walter Winchell Files, Butterfield & Butterfield, 1990/91.
