VIN: S.106.J.; Miles: 105381; Engine: 4.9L Inline 6 Cylinder; Color: Silver Offered from the estate of its longtime owner, this 1955 Rolls-Royce Silver Dawn four-door saloon represents an appealing opportunity to acquire a classic example of British luxury motoring with documented ownership history. A rare vehicle, only 760-761 Silver Dawn units were produced between 1949 and 1955. The late owner purchased the automobile in London, England, in November 1970 and arranged for its shipment to the United States. The car remained in his possession for more than five decades and is accompanied by its Illinois certificate of title issued January 25, 1971. Finished in two-tone silver and gray with gray leather upholstery, the automobile features Rolls-Royce's 4.9-liter inline six-cylinder engine, traditional wood dashboard and interior trim, open moonroof/sunroof, and period Jack Barclay Ltd. dealership identification plates. According to the owner's history, the vehicle was last driven approximately 12-14 months ago and has remained garage-kept since. During our inspection, the electrical system powered on and the engine cranked steadily but would not start. Diagnosed by Rolls Royce expert with fuel delivery issue and likely requires a new fuel pump. An oil leak of undetermined origin is also present. The automobile exhibits age-related wear, localized rust, paint imperfections, previous body repairs of varying quality, replacement fender-mounted lights, deteriorated door weatherstripping, and worn tires requiring replacement. The leather interior also shows age-related wear. This long-term-owned Silver Dawn presents an opportunity for the Rolls-Royce enthusiast seeking a substantially complete example for mechanical recommissioning and cosmetic restoration. Prospective bidders are encouraged to review all photographs and inspect the vehicle before bidding. Title and Identification Disclosure: The vehicle is accompanied by its original Illinois certificate of title, issued January 25, 1971, documenting ownership dating to its purchase in November 1970. Please note that the vehicle identification number recorded on the title (S.106.J.) differs from the serial identification number appearing on the Rolls-Royce firewall plate (SVJ83). The reason for this discrepancy has not been determined. The vehicle will be sold with the existing 1971 Illinois title, and prospective bidders are encouraged to independently verify identification numbers and applicable titling requirements before bidding. A 15% buyer's premium will be added to the final hammer price. This lot is located at our auction gallery in Urbana, Illinois.
